Key takeaways

  • Identify the task before comparing options
  • Translate priority words into a decision rule
  • Review correct guesses as seriously as wrong answers

Use the TASK method

T: read the Task in the final sentence. A: identify the Action or service stage. S: find the Safety issue and signal word. K: recall the Knowledge rule before viewing every choice. This four-step pause prevents plausible distractors from controlling your attention.

Translate common signal words

First asks for sequence, not every correct action. Best asks for the most complete or safest option. Except reverses the task. Most likely asks for the strongest fit based on the facts provided. Rewrite the sentence mentally before answering.

  • First → what must happen before the other valid actions?
  • Best → which option satisfies the whole situation?
  • Except → which option does not belong?
  • Most likely → which explanation fits the evidence most directly?

Eliminate by rule, not by familiarity

Remove choices that skip consultation, break infection-control sequence, ignore a contraindication, or contradict manufacturer directions. A technical-sounding option is not automatically correct. The right answer must solve the exact task safely.

Diagnose your reading mistakes

After practice, tag a miss as content, vocabulary, sequence, or signal-word error. Track correct guesses too. A lucky answer gives no evidence that you can retrieve the rule when the wording changes.
