How to prepare for Texas
Keep licensing and regulation (20%) separate from general theory. The written outline assigns 28% to infection control, 40% to hair and scalp, 6% to nails, and 6% to skin. TDLR links English and Spanish candidate bulletins; verify your scheduled language and license.
GlowExam’s free questions cover general written-exam knowledge and are not a substitute for the state’s current laws, candidate bulletin, or practical instructions.
Texas written exam vs practical exam: prepare two different tasks
Use the Cosmetology Operator bulletin linked by TDLR, not the Barber or Esthetician bulletin. The official examination page provides language-specific versions. For practical preparation, use the current bulletin’s task and supply instructions rather than a generic kit advertised for another state.
| Focus | Your next step |
|---|---|
| Written practice | Review one missed concept, then explain the rule without looking at the choices. |
| Practical rehearsal | Copy the current task sequence into a rehearsal checklist; have your school check it. |
| Kit check | Compare item, label, quantity and permitted substitute against the current CIB. |
